When you add two 4 digit numbers. we assume that both the numbers are of maximum numbers
we get a resultant which is 5 digits. so in this situation xxxx yyyy+ zzzz ------------- yxxxz-------------y has to be 1 as there is a carry forward from addition
For y to be 1 x has to be 9 or 8.
But if x has to repeated in the result again in the msb this is possible only if x=9 y =1 and z = 8

I got the simplest method...I'll explain it step by step...seems to be lenghty but it is not.

we know,

Y is carried and any 2 digits between 0 to 9 sum up to a number less than 20.So Y must be 1

ie. Y=1...................(1)

Now,

x+Y+Z=10+z....(since z remains after carrying 1)

=> x+y=10

=> x=9.........(since y=1).........(2)

Now,see the second addition,

x+Y+Z+1=10+x ......here 1 is carried from previous addition

we know x+y+z=10+z

therefore

z+1=x

=>z=9-1

=>z=8.............(3)

So finally we get

x=9

y=1

z=8
