RE: When to use local filter and when to use global Fi...
think this should be in the Reporter Forum but, a local filter would apply to just                     a single block (table, cross tab or chart) within your report.

a global filter would apply to all blocks in your report, so if you had many tables the filter would apply to all of them

RE: When to use local filter and when to use global Fi...

A Report Filter hides the data which you are not interested to view in the
document. There are two types of Report Filters.

Block Report Filter:
It applies to only one block in the Report. A Report
can contain any number of blocks.

Global Report Filter: It applies to all blocks in the Report.

RE: When to use local filter and when to use global Fi...

It can be still stated as "if you want to hide only a  single block in the report, which consists of many you can go for the local filter if you want to  filter many blocks of a report you can go for the Global filter.

Thanks
SRK.

RE: When to use local filter and when to use global Filter?
In BO Reporting we do have Data Providers for each block of output. One report can have multiple Data Providers. And even you can join common fields from different Data Providers.

Local filters are applicable to a specific Data Provider. Global Filters are applicable to all Data Providers in a given Report.

RE: When to use local filter and when to use global Filter?
In the report if you have more than one bock which having one common column and if you want to apply filter for all the blocks then go for global filters.

If you want to apply the filter for a particular block then go for local filter(or) block specific filter.
