Use of the tools or manual approach depends on several factors. They are : Time frame available, Project budget, Human and other resources.

Also it depends on the client's requirment. For exapmple, if client specifies that, they want a product which satisfies more than 95% accuracy, its quite important to use Autation tools.

As a project is started main available points to decide to go for the automation tools are as follows

1) Budget (prime consideration as license for automation tools is too costly)


2) Client need (ie if he is ready to bear the charges of automation tools)


3) Requirement of the project depending on the technology going to be used (mostly we use automation tools for web base application,secondly if technology is so new that there are no automation tools available then its better to go for manual testing like Ajax)


4) Criticality of the project (i.e if performance of the project is major issue for its success then its better to go for automation tools as they gives more accurate results and much costless then for manual performance testing)


5) Time Constraint

Company conclude that tool is required bacause of project length,time and also requirements. if requrements are continuously changing then we need to test more rounds of testing that means regression .so to avoide that we need automation.

if project length is more i.e,if project is too big and contains no.of pages,images then we need to consentrate on performance.so here we can select perfoermance testing tools...
like that the key is to select automation is:

1.repetive work if any
2.performance issues
3.less time.
4.requirements are more

If the application is very huge  and is phased out in several  iterations ,  they  may want to automate the application to prevent the  execution of manual  test cases as they are time  intensive.

The decision to use test tools during the software development process depends on the following factors:
1) Requirements and specifications of the application under test,
2) The complexity of the application,
3) Tthe perceived value the application has to the company,
4) The amount of time allowed for testing,
5) The current level of technical expertise, and
6) The test budget allocated to the project.
