Descriptive Flexfileds r used to add additional informations.and these values r stored to the column attributes.

go to sysadmin application-flexfields-descriptive-segments

dff's are used to capture additional information that is needed for organization. normally we need to program inorder to create additional space like creating stacked canvases etc.. but incase of dff we dont need to program all we need to do is to enable columns in the tables(attribute columns) and can easily capture data.
