Rational Robot :- 1. Developed by IBM and is a part Rational Rose Suite 2 . Its Test Script is Similar to VB 3 . Only 1 kind of Recording [Simple Recording]WinRunnner :- 1. Developed by Mercury Interactive 2. Its Test Script is Similar to VC++ 3. 2 Kinds of Recording [Context & Analog]

Data driven testing is easy in Rational Robot as compared to WinRunner. Ther is not GUI in Rational ROBOT.

The recording method is simpler as compared to WinRunner.

BUt on the other hand, IT is bit expensive and used inthe large projects.

-> Winrunner is just a functional Tool where as Robot, we can use it for both functional (GUI) and performance(VU).

-> WR has 4 check points where as Robot has 13 verification points.

Ans for your question is

Rational Robot it's a tool which we can create a repository for maintaining the Test Scenarios ,Test cases , Script and Bug report under one framework and also we can validate the functionality of an 2tier applications and web applications by SQA Site check. we can validate the Performance of an application by SQA Load .

where as in winrunner we can test only 2 tier and 3 tier applications but we can validate the performance and also we cannot maintain any repostiory

Rational robot is IBM product.Mainly used for testing the IBM application.Used for tracking the bugs.We can build the test cases with in the tool and execute the test cases.Here we can't synchoronize the tests.Here the script generated is SQA/VB script.

Winrunner is a mercury interactive product.Used for Functional /regression testing tool.

Here we can't write the test cases but we can automatically create or manuallly write the corresponding test script.Here we can sycronize the tests.

Here the script generated is test script language(tsl)

The most importent diff. between winRunner and Rational Robot is

winRunnr Doesn't support the .net application , where as Rational Robot support the .net and all other scripting.

In Robot it has both Object Oriented(Context) and Low-level(Analog) as same as in winrunner

WinRunner is Mercury Interactive's tool that performs Functional,Regression testing but Rational Robot belongs to Rational Tolls that perfoms Functional,Regression as well as Performance testing.WinRunner has 3 Checkpoints-GUI,Bitmap and Database.And Rational Robot has 13 Checkpoints.
