Guys,As you are aware, RDW stands for Record Descriptor Award.This is the first 4 bytes in a VSAM - Variable Record Length file that stores the actual length of the record. This is hidden if you browse a VSAM file. In a VB file, realistically the record startsfrom COL 5 and NOT COL 1 as you see when you browse the file. Hope this answers your question.Reg,Venkat.

In addition to above, out of 4 byte of RDW, 2 bytes are for system control information and rest 2 byte for length of the record.
