I think testing starts in the testing phase only... however, quality assurance activities are started right from the beginning of SDLC....pls comment

If your project requires a test strategy and test plan, then testing begins when you ask your first question about the project even before the requirements are baselined.  I suppose what I'm saying is this:  Testing begins very early in the software development process.

Bsically actual testing starts in testing phase only, but it also depends on which SDLC model are we following for the project.
