Ganesh and Shankar travel abroad and take more luggage than the airlines allow. They
have to pay extra money for it. They carry 52 kgs together and pay $60 and $100
respectively. Now, if the same luggage was carried by only Ganesh it would cost him
$340. If the airlines charges only at one rate for extra luggage what is the maximum
luggage that a person can carry without paying extra?
18 kgs

RE:
at first time both carry laugage of 52 kgs they pay $100 and $60 and second only been to abroad then he pay $ 340 160/x gives numver of kgs they carried extra. y 160/x y 160 x*y then get the values for trial and error example 10*16 52 - 16 36 this is kgs allowed for both 36/2 is the kgs allowed for one ie 18

RE: Ganesh and Shankar travel abroad and take more lu...

hey!!!!

how this answer comes...

i am showing u another way just check it and reply

G1 extra leggage handled by Ganesh

S1 Extra by Shankar

N Normal weight without charcge.....

For shankar N+S1 Total weight

For Ganesh N+G1

So total weight N+S1+N+G1 52 Kgs

Money paid by Shankar for extra leggage is (Consider T as tax ) S1*T 100

For Ganesh G1*T 60

If is taking By ganesh an additonal N will be added to him So

(N+S1+G1)*T 340

From This NT 180.

Solving We get N 14.5

RE: 18kgs
Let the minimum luggage any person can carry be x. Now 52kgs is 2x plus the extra carried by ganesh(for which he pays 60$) and by Shankar(for which he pays 100$).The second part of the question says that had Ganesh carried the luggage all by himself it would have cost him an extra of 360$.He has been charged more because now he has to pay for Shankar's minimum luggage too(and that is 180$ 360-(60+100) ). So the cost of x luggage is 180$. 60$ is 1/3rd of 180$ and 100$ is 5/9th of 180$.

So therefore 2x + (1/3)x+(5/9)x 52
x 18kgs
