peter paul pam pat

1+x x 1+y y

peter+paul+pam+pat=60

peter+paul=pam+pat+10

1+x+x+1+y+y=60

1+x+x=1+y+y+10x+y=29

x-y=9

so from the two equations we get x=19 and y=10

so peter picked 20 balls

Add the given two equations:
2peter + 2paul =70---------(1)
peter picks one ball more than paul,
so (1) becomes 2
(1+paul) + 2paul=70
paul=17
if paul =17, put this in (1)
peter becomes 18
Answer can be verified after finding pam and pat.
pam is 13 and pat is 12

peter = paul+1---------------1;
pam = pat+1------------------2;
peter+paul+pam+pat=60--3;
peter + paul = pam+pat+10-----------4;
 so take eq -3;
subs for peter and pam ;
so v get
2paul+2pat +2 = 60;
peter + paul = pam+pat+10
2paul+1=2pat+11
2paul = 2pat +10
4 pat =60-12
4pat = 48
pat = 12
pam = 13
2paul +24 +2 = 60
2paul = 60-26
paul=34/2 = 17
peter =17+1 = 18

W+X+Y+Z=60
W+X=Y+Z+10
W+X=60-Y-Z
         =60-(Y+Z)
Y+Z=W+X-10
W+X=60-(W+X-10)
2W+2X=70
W+X=35
Y+Z+10=35
Y+Z=25
35+25=60
W+Z=35
peter took 18
paul took 17
