Testdirector is a test management tool. it is used to oragnize the tesing process. we can create testcases also.

WinRunner is a tool for automatic testing. The WinRunner is mostly used for Regression testing and GUI testing purpose. Testing will be done very fast, reliable and efficient. Where as, TestDirector is a test management web based tool where the centralized database is used for managing the requirements documents, specification documents, Test cases, test plans and Defect tracking and managing. The WinRunner and TestDirector are products from Mercury.

winrunner does not handle automated test scripts infact winrunner is a tool to create automated test scripts. TD is a centeral Repository to store Bugs information and mangment

  Winrunner is functional- regression testing tool. It is product of Mercury interactive. It is very useful testing tool due to which we can do certain level complex testing.

Test director is test management tool, it keeps perfect records for your requirement phase to defect  report. Designing of testcases is good engouh.

WinRunner and TestDirector both Mercury's Product.

WinRunner for Application's Functionality Testing Tool for Regression Testing. Record and update the TSL then Replay it with Num of iterations. But TestDirector for Test Management Tool could organize the Requirements, TestPlan, TestLab, Defect Tracking everything with providing previlges. From TestDirector could Remote Run the WinRunner LoadRunner Scripts.

Winrunner is an automation testing tool whereas test director is used for both manual and automation testing. And we can also create test cases in that.

Winrunner is for doing functional and regression testing.Its a testing tool.BUT WE CAN'T WRITE TEST CASES IN WINRUNNER.

While Test director is for bug/Defect Tracking and used for sheulding of the tasks.Its test management tool.

We can write the test cases in test director.

Winrunner is the Test Automation tool where as Test Director is the Test Management Tool.

Test Automation Tools is the one which actually automates the system. It has features like record, play. Scipting (coding) can also be done in it. You automate your system using this tool and get results.

Test Management Tool is the one in which you write your test scripts, execute them. You can also raise defect in it. You can attach your test evidences (like screenshots) in it. Generation of customise exection status/defect status reports is also possible.

Winrunner is an automation tool, where we can do everything by automation ie; we first record then we run it. But test director is a test management tool where we can find every thing  in one place ie; (test case, writting testcase....etc).
