Working at home is almost a dream job for anyone. You won’t have to be on corporate clothing everyday and you could work at your preferred schedule. However, the idea of working at home has been exploited by individuals in order to earn quick cash at the expense of others.

If you have been thinking of working at home, don’t jump in to different work at home schemes that will not only cost you time and money. Millions have already been scammed and they have learned their lessons hard. Fortunately, the millions of people who have already been scammed were smart enough to warn others. That is why spotting work at home scams is very easy.

One of the biggest signs that a work at home job is a scam is they ask for a “training fee” or registration fee upfront. They can call it anything they want to but a company that asks you for money upfront is a scam even when the company is not operating online.

Since this is already a known trend and has been avoided by millions, the trick is to entice you with money. They will still give you money upfront but they will claim that they have discovered money making scheme so incredible that you’ll earn thousands of dollars just being online a few hours a day.

They will show pictures of people working on their laptops in a beach front to tell you that you don’t even have to be at home to work and with the money that you’ll earn, you can practically be in a paradise island for months if you want to. This is very enticing since all you have to pay is a few dollars to “unlock the secret”. Unfortunately, scamming others is the secret, which of course, is illegal.

There are also work from home scams that doesn’t need your money but your information. This is even more dangerous considering that this is already a classic case of identity theft. They could pose as a legitimate company looking for someone to work for them at home.

They may even have a legitimate email such as @companyname.com so that you would believe that they are legit and send them your information. Be wary about giving out your information online. Although you will not lose your money, you will lose your identity. The bad thing about this is that they are a little bit difficult to spot among the legitimate company looking for employees.

To protect yourself from these scams while working from home, look for forums wherein telecommuting jobs are discussed and posted. There are thousands of them and jobs are not just stuffing envelopes or assembling stuff at home.

You could be a writer, an artist, web designer or an applications developer and there are forums dedicated in informing its members what’s a scam and what’s not. By taking in personal experiences, you should increase your knowledge in spotting what could be a scam. If you feel a little bit of hesitation for an offer, don’t accept them because chances are your gut feeling will be correct.
