Overseas Careers - Working While on Vacation
Working while on vacation is a dream job for almost everyone. If you’re an adventurer type, you can actually have a job while on vacation on an exotic country. While you’re tucked away in a very beautiful beach, you have a good job that will support you in the things that you do there. Vacations are always expensive but if you have work, you’ll be able to stay there for a very long period of time without even thinking of draining all your savings back home.
But don’t just leave yet for your one year work vacation. Before you could actually be successful in your job overseas, certain skills have to be developed so that you can ensure your success overseas. Here are some suggested skills or tests you want to improve before packing your bags:
PADI Certificate – PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. If you’re planning to spend your entire work/vacation with a beautiful beach setting, this should be the certificate that you’ll have before you head out of the country. PADI is internationally recognized so you could end up in ANY country that has beach and teach scuba diving there. You can also go to other countries, get the certification there and be hired to work as an English speaking instructor.
ESL (English as Secondary Language) Training Certification – Sure you know how to speak English but do you know how to each English to a non-English speaker? TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) are only some of the certificates that you should pass to be a teacher in English to other countries. You don’t have to get them all. Just choose one and if you ace it, it’s your passport to working overseas.
Writers – This one is from experience. All you need is a powerful laptop and you can be virtually anywhere. You could be an online freelance writer, earning at your own time or a writer in the local publication. Most local publication looks for native English speakers who could be part of their pool of writers. If you have experience writing in the country before you go out, this could be your ticket to an extended vacation in the country of your choice.
There are other jobs that you could consider while you’re working abroad: teaching water based sports, working in a call center as an Accent Coach or even a computer analyst for a well known company. You just have to highlight your skills so that overseas companies should be able to consider you once you get there.
But before you actually work, be sure you have the right paper works and authorization to do so. Any country has a policy for foreigners working in their country. Check with your embassy or the country’s website to know the requirements for those who are interested in working in their country.
When you got the skills, you could be virtually anywhere in this world and succeed in no time.
