A few months ago, the Ajax community received news that Microsoft has chosen jQuery as their JavaScript library. This news was received well by the Ajax world as Microsoft has chosen a very powerful, not to mention popular, JavaScript library.

Since its early inception of jQuery by John Resig, the library quickly became a very popular library because of the constant updates of the library as well as support from different developers around the world. Microsoft has apparently stepped into the bandwagon of jQuery as they have chosen the library for their Visual Studio release.

Just a few days ago, a giant in mobile phone industry also enlisted the assistance of jQuery. Nokia, the largest manufacturer of mobile phones, has tapped jQuery for its JavaScript and Ajax based projects that will be integrated in their mobile phones.

With the help of jQuery, the Finland based mobile phone manufacturer hopes to increase the performance of their JavaScript applications in their mobile phones. The JavaScript library will be specifically used in Web Run Time which is an application engine of Nokia based on Webkit.

Through Web Run Time, Nokia hopes to improve the performance of the mobile phone in interacting through the web. The JavaScript library was tapped to provide the functions that would enable seamless interaction of the mobile phone to different applications of Nokia that requires internet connectivity.

Future phones of Nokia will be sporting jQuery library in their Web Run Time to run different web based applications and local applications for better online interaction.

The great thing about the integration of Nokia is that they will support development of widgets that are based on jQuery. Any developer could build applications who use jQuery library and use it as a small plug-in in the Web Run Time for additional user experience.

Nokia and Microsoft are relatively larger and have better net profit compared to jQuery. But these tech giants have acknowledged the inherent power of jQuery before they even adopted it.

The companies will be using jQuery as their library and in no way make some changes on the standards on the JavaScript library.

They will just introduce patches and plug-ins for jQuery and would also provide updates if possible. No need to worry about Microsoft taking over jQuery.

The library will still stay as it is no matter who and what uses the library. Nokia will be using the library and even enlist the help of independent developers to help improve their mobile phones.

With this update, jQuery has again increased their popularity as a JavaScript library. Since they are now integrated to different Microsoft programming applications and Nokia mobile phones, learning jQuery is increasingly becoming important. This might not be the last of jQuery in a big corporate spotlight.

We may not know it yet, but it is safe to say that other tech companies are now taking a second look at jQuery. Microsoft and Nokia have certainly placed the JavaScript library on a spotlight and its popularity and adoption could still increase.
