Metadata are data about data; each metadata describes an individual data, content item or a c o l l e c t i o n of data which includes multiple content items. It is the process of consolidating, relating, and synchronizing data elements from different systems which have same or similar meaning in order to facilitate easier access.
Foredata is a very new term that stands for “Developed From Fore” meaning beforehand, up front, at or near the front. In fact not many are aware of the existence of such word but the underlying function of the foredata has always been there and has existed as early as the database system has existed years ago. Foredata are all data about the objects and events, including both praedata and paradata.
Legacy data comes from virtually everywhere within the information system and support legacy systems. The many sources of legacy data include databases, often relational but hierarchical, network, object, XML, and object/relational databases as well. Legacy data is another term used for disparate data.
