who is a good software engg
With increase in recognised private engg colleges,every year there are many s/w engg produced by many universities.So, its quite tough to determine who is a good s/w engg.Remember ,mere getting an degree is not enough in today's competitive world.Ofcourse, degrees are must.But today companies want s/w engg who should have various qualities apart from the degree.
Generally,the good s/w engg should possess the foll attributes
1)See,when we consider a s/w engg, the name itself suggests that he has to deal with softwares.Software consists of programs,documents,and operating procedures.So it is very clear that his programming abilities .
2)When we make a s/w for any user,generally s/w engineers DONOT follow adhoc
procedures,in order to avoid high costs etc .Infact there are some s/w engg principles, which are supposed to be followed.So a s/w engg should have sound knowledge of these princilpes.
Generally ,most people may consider that these two points (mentioned above)are enough to become a good s/w engg,but the fact is that the points which are discussed below are also equally imp and cannot be neglected.
3)The field of computer science demands that your thinking should not be restricted.Infact,it is necessary that a good s/w engg should be capable of thinking differently.
4)See the responsibility of producing a quality s/w is not assigned to one person.What i mean is that generally a team is made to get the work done.Now it becomes basic neccessity for a s/w engg that he is able to work in team.He should cooperate with his seniors,juniors etc.
5)Good oral, written and interpersonal skills are also required.Communication is very imp feature of a good s/w engg.Many s/w engg neglect this and pay the price for it.Many may say that why a s/w engg requires good communication skills,see the reason is quite simple,he not only needs to communicate with his teammates but also with his customers.So,it specifie why communication is imp.
There may be many more qualities required but to a great extent the above points can help us determine a good s/w engg.
