RE: How important is software knowledge for a business analyst and why?

As the Role suggests a Ba is a bridge between the customer/end user and the technical teams, implies that a Ba should definitely have basic clarity on softwares/technologies used so that he is able to guage the feasibility of the customer requirements and translate them into a developer understandable language.

he should be aware of the SDLC and various problems issues related to SLDC.
should have good logical mind which is able to understand the customer req and when translating them he is aware of various dependencies between req, impacts and hence should be ina position to provide alternative solutions/options.
