Question: A 5 litre jug contains 4 litres of a salt water solution that is 15 percent salt. If 1.5 litres of the solution spills out of the jug, and the jug is then filled to capacity with water, approximately what percent of the resulting solution in the jug is salt?

the answer is 7.5%. this is how we get it. initially quantity of salt = (15/100)*4=.6 ltr when 1.5 ltr sol spills,the salt lost is (15/100)*1.5=.225 ltr now salt left = .6-.225=.375 ltrs as jug is filled to its capacity,total sol = 5ltrs % of salt =(0.375/5)*100=7.5% |
