Question:  Infosys Placement Paper On 10th September - Kasturba Gandhi College, Hyderabad

Answer: hi frends,
here are the questions

1. (X)^1/3 - (X)1^9=60
approach let (X)^1/3 =n
so n-(n)^1/3=60
so now by hit and trial
the number which satisfies it is 64 => 64-4=60
hence proved.

2.A cube problem which is painted with red is cut into 27 small cubes with six straight cuts
a) how many cubes are there with 0 side red colour
b) how many cubes are there with 1 side red colour
c) how many cubes are there with 2 side red colour
d) how many cubes are there with 3 side red colour
A
0 faces coloured-1(27-(12+6+8))
1 faces coloured-6(All middle ones are 1 face colored red 1*6=6)
2 faces coloured-12(exclude corners other are 2 faces colored red so 4*3=12)
3 faces coloured-8( all corners are 3 faces colored red so 2 at front and 2 at back)

Approach draw a cube and cut it into 6 parts

3.A man starts from some city and drives a constant speed. After some time he sees a milestone with two digits written on it.after he drives for an hour, he sees another milestone with the same digits, but in reversed order. After another hour of journey, he sees another milestone with original digits but with a zero between them(here it becomes 2hrs).Find the speed of the car?
A let the distance showed on first milestone be 10x+y
distance showed on second milestone be 10y+x
now hit and trial
let x=1 y=6 so 16 ,61,106 distance is 45km/hr.
106-16=90=> 90/2=45km/hr. U can take x=1 and y=1,2,3,4,……,9 u’ll get the same answer.

4.A five digit no whose third digit is one greater than the sum of the first two digits and the third digit is double the fourth digit and fourth digit is double the fifth digit and second digit is greater than first digit by 5. and if we multiply fourth and fifth digith we get third digit.
A
Let the digits be XYZUV
z=x+y+1
z=2u
u=2v
y=x+5
hit and trial
16842

5. There was a cycle race going on. 1/5th of the those in front of a person and 5/6th of those behind him gives the total number of participants. How many people took part in the race?

A. Let total number of people be x
1/5(x-1)+5/6(x-1)=x
so x=31

6. .B and C initially speak English but when D joined Spanish they too took up Spanish. The only common language between A, B and E is French. The only common language between C and E is Italian. Three people speak Portuguese. Most common language is Spanish. One person knows all the 5 language, one person knows 4 languages, one person knows 3 languages, one person knows 2 languages and one person knows only one language.

A -French, Spanish, Portuguese
B -English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian
C - English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese
D -Spanish
Approach draw table and solve it u will get it

7.Uncle Reuben and aunt Cynthia came to town to shop.Reuben bought a suit and hat for $15.Cynthia paid as much as for her hat as Reuben did for his suit.Then she spent the rest of her money for her dress.On the way to home Cynthia called Reubens attention to the fact that his hat cost $1 more than her dress.Then uncle said if we had divided our hat money differently such that we bought a different hats mine costing 1 and ½ times cost of yours then we would have spent the equal amount of money.
(i)How much the hat would cost in that case?
(ii)What is the total amount spent?

Let uncle Reuben be A and aunt Cynthia be B

let say A spent x & y on hat and suit resp.
From the condition we can say B spent y and x-1 rs on hat and dress resp.
From what B told to A we can write
x+y=15
=1.5x+(x-1)=15
=2.5x-1=15
=x=16/2.5=6.4rs
b. total A alone spent =x+y=15.
B spent =y+(x-1)=14
=x+y-1
=15-1=14
so together they spent 15+14=29 rs
(check it out.Dont know whether the answer is correct or not.)

8. There was a match to be held.And 100 nations were to participate in that match.It was totally an elimination match on a knock-out basis,that is if a team loses a match it must be eliminated.Find out the total number of matches played to find out the grand winner?

Its clearly given that it’s a knock-out basis.So the answer is 100-1=99.

9.There were totally 100 men.85 are married.75 have T.V, 85 have radio,70 have A.C. How many men have T.V, radio, A.C and also married?

A. 85 are married so 15 are not married
75 have TV 25 dont have TV
85 have radio 15 dont have radio
70 have AC 30 dont have AC

so totally 100-(15+25+15+30)=15 have all

10.One more question was some 11 names were given we have to find who is youngest
Its really very easy.write all the conditions in a table format and then write the order of the given persons analyzing the conditions one by one.For the question given I got the answer as EDWARD(100% sure)

English part is very easy and u need not prepare for English. Just concentrate on the previous papers,shakuntaladevi puzzle to puzzle u and basic formulae from R.S. Agarwal.

Where there is a will there is a way
Good Luck To All……………
