Answer: The Checkpoint (CKPT) process is responsible for signaling  DBWR  at checkpoints  and updating all the data files and control files of the database.

Pmon - process monitor
Smon - system Monitor
Dbwn - database buffer writer
Lgwr - log write
Ckpt - checkpoint
